When we decided to go to the Centara Grand Modus Resort it had been booked on a spur of the moment when I was between jobs. Me and George decided to splurge and go on a holiday before I started my new job.
We ended up going to The Thomson travel agents after researching a few locations we could go on a two week break. (as we only had 10 days till the flight and we couldn’t decide). I haven’t been in to a travel agents and booked like this for years – I would like to add my experience was excellent!
We had previously done a bit of research and looked at a variety of places including Jamaica, Cape Verde, Cuba, Dominican Republic and Mexico. In the travel agents however Thailand was suggested as we had quite a few days to play with. (I genuinely have no idea how I had not thought about this before I love Thailand – read about it here). So… right there and then we booked through Hayes and Jarvis, Thomson‘s sister company a 15 day beak in Thailand.. just like that… we didn’t need asking twice!!
The hotel we booked was then known as Centara Grand Modus, Pattaya… it is now known as Novotel Modus Pattaya Resort.
About Centara Grand Modus Resort *****
The hotel is set outside of the city of Pattaya it is in a quiet location on the golden stands of Wong Amat Beach. The hotels appeals to couples and family’s who want a bit of quiet out of the hustle and bustle of the city.
The hotel’s decor is described as ‘Industrial Chic’ with a vintage flourish. The hotel is very stylish and modern and absolutely beautiful. Each of the rooms are exquisite in each of the bar/restaurant areas.
Pictures below have been sourced from Booking.com
The hotel offers a choice of five restaurants and bars..
Modus Bistro – offers food food throughout the day with a huge list of international cuisine prepared in an open kitchen.
Twilight – is a bistro which offers snacks and refreshments including tapas and amazing cocktails
Breeze Beech Club – is the beachside dining serving delicious food in the day before turning into a beach club in the evening.
Ripples – is a swim up bar which offers light snacks and refreshments pool side
Lobby Lounge – is a coffee shop, patisserie and bar combined to be enjoyed in a relaxed setting.
The dining options at this Hotel are amazing (and I am not just saying that – pinky promise)!! We didn’t eat at the hotel too often as most days we ventured out to Pattaya and enjoyed local foods and drinks in the city (as you should when in Thailand). This hotel offers a few specialty nights a week which we felt we needed to try.
The dining options do not come cheap and you could buy a lot more in Pattaya for that money… but in my opinion worth it.
Here is what I would recommend..
The Asian BBQ– which I can tell you was with out a doubt the most delicious foods I have ever eaten. You sit in the Modus bistro pick whatever bits you fancy and they are cooked fresh right in front of you. There was pad Thai, fresh starters and spring rolls, meat and fish kebabs, curries and so much more. You have the option of making your own curry by choosing all of your own ingredients – meats, veg, noodle/rice. There is the Buffet area for curries and starters then little carts dotted around like you would see out in Thailand set up outside also. I would recommended to try it was super yummy.
Beach BBQ – The all you can eat Beach BBQ (with the option of unlimited wine). This is set on the beach (obviously), at sunset there are tables set up its a lovely setting. we sat with a glass of wine and watched the sun go down. You have three stones on your table with your table number pick up your desired BBQ food – (all varieties of sea food including lobster, shellfish and squid and meats – steak, chicken pork) you then take them to the BBQ and they are cooked and brought to your table. There were so many stations if you wanted curries, pad Thais, Thai salad and so much more. I would recommend it it was one of my favorite evenings here.
The Breakfast at the hotel was THE best I have had at a hotel yet. The choice on offer was huge. There was a wide variety of fresh pressed juices, cereals, curry, cooked breakfast, fresh fruit, toast, pastries with loads of toppings and pastries.
My favorite thing was a tomato and cheese omelette made fresh for me every morning… with ingredient I picked.

The Room
This hotel is very impressive right down to the finest detail. Our room was a Deluxe Ocean viewand was no exception it was beautiful and spacious. It had a quirky feel to it with its cool decor. The bed was so so comfy with the best pillows, if you were not satisfied you could order more from the pillow menu (which we did a couple of times yano just to try). The room also offered the most beautiful bathroom with lots of little complementary toiletries and a HUGEEE bath. There also was an incredible balcony where we overlooked the beach and sea we often watched the sunset from there.
Every day bottles of water and ice were brought to your room by the lovely staff whilst getting ready and the fresh fruit replenished. This was a nice little extra from the hotel.
We couldn’t have asked for any more.
The Location
When we arrived we got a private taxi to the hotel which took around two hours when our plane got in. There is the option of the hotels shuttle which can take and pick you up but due to our flight times this was out of the shuttle time.
The location of the hotel in Pattaya was perfect for us, set out in a quiet part out of centre of the city. The hotel also offered a shuttle to the main road, much needed for getting a tuk tuk in to the city.

Staff
The hotel staff were literally so helpful. If you are by the pool and order a drink the staff are so efficient, they would be so quick with any request, they were back before you knew it.
When we wanted to book a few day trips, we spoke with reception staff. They told us everything we could do, seeing elephants, floating markets and going to koh lan. The staff were excellent they advised how to get there and how much it would cost. We also decided one night to stay away from the hotel for a night on a nearby island – Koh Samet and staff were helpful again with this helping us organise this and booked our transfers.
The staff were top notch and could not be knocked.
Thoughts on Centara Grand Modus Resort
I must say I loved this hotel!! Every detail of a stay was perfect right down to the smallest detail. I would 100% come back to this hotel (if it was in a different location.. I was not 100% sold on Pattaya read more later). The only downside of this hotel was that it wasn’t closer to the city but then again that was also a perk. Plus the hotel offers the shuttle to the main road where you just pick up a tuk tuk for a ride into the city which was no bother at all either. If you are looking for a hotel in the Pattaya area for either a short or long stay I would recommend. The food offered was pricey but delicious, the room was lovely. I loved this hotel… can you tell yet?
